At the close of the 2018/19 season, Leeds United could neither beg or borrow a win, and Marcelo Bielsa wouldn’t let them steal one, either. Their play-off fate had already been cast, but a victory over Aston Villa would have been a fine step towards the kind of regroup needed to not screw up their final chance. Perhaps Bielsa was happy to surrender the famous equaliser, knowing the much-needed psychological shake-up could wait a week for a visit to relegated Ipswich Town, who were flirting with the wrong kind of records, with their average points score of 0.6 per game. It was the closest thing to an open goal that a team looking to recover confidence could ask for.
