Fair play champs

Are we… good?

An image of Leeds forward Mateo Joseph peacocking towards the Elland Road Kop after his goal against Sheffield United..

There’s a scene in the sketch show That Mitchell & Webb Look in which they depict two SS officers. You’ve probably seen the meme. As it dawns on one of them who they are, he asks, “Hans, are we… the baddies?” At Leeds we’ve always known we’re the bad guys. Dirty Leeds, we all hate Leeds scum etc. All this, despite a FIFA Fair Play Award. Well, two FIFA Fair Play Awards if we count Lucas Radebe’s. Which we should. He’s one of us, after all. How many other English clubs have won one? That’s right, none. We’re the fairest team in football.

This season, too, are we actually quite good on the pitch? Our only league defeat came at home to Burnley. The smattering of draws have worn an air of misfortune. Opening day against Portsmouth, away at Sunderland, then hard-earned draws at West Brom and Norwich. We’ll gloss over the League Cup hammering at the hands of Middlesborough.
