While no one wanted Marcelo Bielsa to take over at Bournemouth or Everton, when he took the Uruguay national job going to see home games in Montevideo seemed like a stretch for a Leeds fan. The stadium that hosted the first World Cup, hosting the greatest manager of all time — it’s a great fit. The 2hr10m flight if he’d got the job at Athletic Bilbao was more tempting, though.
It felt (and still does, if any Leeds management are reading this) like a friendly against Uruguay at Elland Road was the only obvious course of action. Marcelo could go to his favourite Costa. We could all say the goodbye we missed out on.
