Jack Charlton playing the guitar with stereos piled up behind him. Presumably, he's about to play John Charles in for a rendition of Sixteen Tons.

I found out this week that Iโ€™m likely to lose my job. So as a proactive middle-aged go-getter, I took the only sensible course of action in this situation and stayed up until 3am the night before my redundancy meeting, trying to figure out how to play โ€˜Leeds Leeds Leeds (Marching On Together)โ€™ on guitar. Here are my findings.

My previous abortive attempts to learn MOT have always underestimated the harmonic richness and little nuances that elevate the composition above a by-the-numbers pop song. Iโ€™d match basic chords to melody, and theyโ€™d fit, but they werenโ€™t right. It always lacked that bit of swazz that gives the actual song its own special feel.
