An illustration from Adam Hopkins of three Gary Speeds from across his time at Leeds, a time when he was banging goals and being just ridiculously handsome and good at football.
Get one yourself, son

Five great Gary Speed goals

Leeds United 4-0 Sheffield United — April 1990

When you try to visualise this goal, you hear it before you see it: “Go on Gary Speed, get one yourself son.” While Howard Wilkinson was trusting experience for the promotion run-in, dropping David Batty from midfield for the more reliable Chris Kamara, he had no such worries about Gary Speed’s temperament. In Leeds’ biggest game of the season, in front of the biggest crowd, nobody stood taller than the 20-year-old wearing the number 11.

Leeds were already 3-0 up when Kamara snapped into a tackle in Leeds’ half and sent Speed sprinting down the left wing. He had sixty metres to run but looked happy enough to run six thousand, calmly finding the bottom corner once he reached his destination in front of the Kop.
