Leeds United broke records to sign Tony Yeboah in 1995. The ยฃ3.4m it cost to make his loan move from Eintracht Frankfurt permanent was the highest transfer fee spent in the clubโ€™s history. Not that Howard Wilkinson was bothered. โ€œIf you pay five bob for someone and he doesnโ€™t perform then itโ€™s a big disappointment,โ€ said Sgt Wilko. But boy did Yeboah perform. THWACK!

Looking back on Yeboahโ€™s arrival in January 1995 stands in stark contrast to the stance Leeds have taken on mid-season signings in recent years, with both Victor Orta and Angus Kinnear both speaking publicly on numerous occasions about the clubโ€™s strategy towards the January transfer window.
