Goalkeeper. A position unto itself, made for mavericks and strong personalities. When it goes wrong, it goes so wrong that you think nothing will be right again, waking in a cold sweat and wondering if it really happened.
Oh, it did. It surely did.

Ask any Leeds fan when we last had a goalkeeper they could trust, and you’ll probably get the same response. Nigel Martyn.

For a while, we all hoped it’d be Illan Meslier, but we also hoped it’d be Ankergren, Higgs, Lucas, Schmeichel, Lonergan, Kenny, Silvestri, Peacock-Farrell, Lonergan (again), Casilla, and every reserve, youth keeper, or emergency loan that’s ever been suggested as an option to don the gloves. It’s a rogue’s gallery if ever I saw one and as good a demonstration as any of the revolving door and scattergun transfer policy we’ve adopted for over two decades.
You’ll notice one glaring omission from that list, though: Rob Green.
