Tidings of comfort and joy

The 1995/96 season contained some of the best and worst moments of my tiny little life to that point. Some footballing, some not, all disproportioned by the inexperience of youth. For instance, my evidence base was too scarce to understand the magnitude of Yeboah yeboahing it at 1000mph past David James, on the volley, on his wrong foot, off the bar, the floor and into the roof of the net. All seen from a family stand vantage that will forever controvert the reverse angle of the TV footage no matter how many times I rewatch it. But the experience of being at the game at all was already precious by dint of its scarcity. We got to Elland Road on half-terms, holidays and odd weekends, experiencing the rest of Leeds United through a combination of Ceefax, Teletext, Radio 5 Live and Grandstand.
