Worlds Apart

As I stood by the gates of Elland Road’s East Stand, I felt very emotional watching the Leeds United players celebrating promotion back to the Premier League. Largie Ramazani in sunglasses drinking champagne did its best to make up for missing 2020’s party.

Leeds were last promoted under Marcelo Bielsa at a time when I was travelling over for home matches before moving to the city permanently. I believed all the early mornings and late nights in airports, on buses and trains would pay off, and that’d probably come with Leeds beating Charlton on the final day, which should have been in early May 2020. Obviously, that didn’t happen.
