Paul Trevillion wanted to thrill.
Elland Road, 1972: 50 days that changed Leeds United forever.

A 160 page special publication by The Square Ball, Paul Trevillion and Leeds United Supporters’ Trust, to celebrate Leeds United winning the Centenary FA Cup in 1972. This ‘bookazine’ tells the story of how sock tags, tracksuits and synchronised warm-ups caught the imagination while Super Leeds fought round by round for the FA Cup, the last domestic trophy not yet in the Elland Road cabinet.

Written by Daniel Chapman and Rob Conlon, designed by Eamonn Dalton, and including extracts from a newly published book by Paul Trevillion and Neil Jeffries.

The cover features original Trevillion drawings of the 1972 FA Cup final team, and a collage design by AcidFC creator Ed Cowburn.

Proceeds from this special issue and merch range will be used to work with Leeds United Supporters’ Trust on future Trevillion projects.

In 1972, Leeds United were the best team in the country. Respected, revered, feared. But not loved.

When manager Don Revie picked up the phone to call Paul Trevillion, he thought he was getting a public relations expert. What he got instead was a true born artist, a whirlwind of ideas and action, a charismatic tempest. Revie soon nicknamed him, ‘The Beaver’.

The new look Super Leeds stunned football. Sock tags, tracksuits, tricks and chart hits: what Trevillion achieved with Leeds in 50 days is as fresh 50 years later as it was in 1972.

This is the story of the FA Cup Jack Charlton wanted more than any other, Don Revie’s longing for Leeds to be loved, and Paul Trevillion, believing everything was possible.
